Technology
Are you ready to start up an online business and would like to know a bit about the technological side of it and what’s involved? If so read on.
The technology part of running an online business is another essential requirement if you want your business to be a success.
Like in all the other parts of an online business it pays to have some knowledge of how it works and one of the best ways to do that is to get some direct experience on the subject matter. You most probably have found or will find that out of all the things it takes to operate an online business, some of them you won’t like to do or can’t do and that’s fairly normal as no one can or even wants to be an expert at everything—and so as a result it becomes more convenient what you don’t like to outsource the tasks and give them to those who are experienced and know their business in those areas, however even to outsource you still need to know or have things worked out at least in what you require the expert to do and that can be done by you having a basic knowledge and some experience yourself about each of the areas involved in the business.
In regards to the technology side of an online business there are quite a few parts to it. Here’s a useful list of some of things you yourself can do and get to know with respect to the technological aspect of running your online business both in terms of tasks you yourself do and ones you outsource.
- A basic knowledge of online practice and Internet set up.
- PC maintenance and how to troubleshoot basic computer problems that you don’t need to pay for and or even needs PC expert to fix. (simply do a google search on the issue)
- Purchase of some types of security and other PC protection software to use that safeguards against viruses, malware, scanners and hackers—so your online business financial and transactions and password on online personal information is kept safe and secure.
- How to use services when you need to upload and download large files from the internet to your Pc and vice versa, plus the use of different software related to slide presentations, video, audio and other online media outlets and publishing methods.
- What software in particular to buy for serving and making easier the operations of specific areas of your online business.
- A basic knowledge of how to set up a website and create content pages, optin forms, sales pages, and present your products and services online. (Note: A lot of this can be automatically done and outsourced however you still need to have a knowledge of what’s required).
- How to use search engines and marketing resources for research and testing.
- Website design, and layout, and graphic presentation.
- Having a very basic coding knowledge, (which is helpful but not absolutely necessary).
- How to set up specific sites and payment processors such as for example if you want to do a membership site or an e-commerce site. (Normally each company will have instructions come with their software and support in how to do this, so it’s just a matter of following their guidelines and if you get stuck seek help through their support and or do a google search).
As mentioned it’s not essential to be proficient in all these areas however you do want to have a good working knowledge of all parts of the online system on the whole and the way it operates as then you will not only be able to address each area for its problems when they arise but also be equipped with the experience and knowledge to use for further development and growth for when you want to expand your business and or re-assess it for improvements from time to time as you go along.
A lot of the technology side can be outsourced however running your website is important and creating a platform otherwise known as your “online home or presence” is how you can effectively distribute and sell your offers and connect in your business with others—so really the technology part is nevertheless one of the essential requirements for online business success.
